The Silo House is a residential project in Teton Valley, Idaho. The design transforms existing agricultural structures into a new domestic setting, reworking two 1950s Butler grain silos as primary architectural elements within a broader composition that maintains a direct relationship to the property’s history.
The house is organised around the silo forms as spatial drivers rather than treating them as isolated objects. Their presence establishes order and sequence, shaping the relationship between interior rooms, exterior thresholds, and the surrounding rural context.
Construction and material strategies prioritise reuse and low-impact assemblies. All exterior cladding is repurposed, and mushroom board cladding forms part of the envelope system. Wall assemblies combine cork insulation and wood fibre to achieve R40 performance, while hemp insulation is used throughout the interior.
Configured as a project born of upcycling and adaptation, Silo House brings together existing structures and high-performance assemblies to create a home rooted in place and oriented toward long-term environmental responsibility.
