Begbie Residence is a single-storey home located in Revelstoke, British Columbia. Set on a generous rural lot, the house engages the surrounding landscape while maintaining a clear relationship to the road and broader site.
The house is arranged as a series of connected volumes distributed across the property. The main dwelling is set back from the road, while two dedicated studio spaces, a pottery studio and a luthier workshop, are positioned toward the front of the site. These studios establish a threshold condition, separating work and living while providing a degree of privacy to the main house beyond.
Inside, primary living spaces are organised on a single level, with kitchen, living, and bedroom areas arranged for clarity of circulation and ease of movement. Covered exterior spaces and sheltered connections extend the use of the house outward, allowing the plan to operate across both interior and exterior rooms.
Low, horizontal roof forms and deep overhangs define the architectural expression. Expressed timber columns and beams support covered areas and define edges, reinforcing the relationship between structure and form while creating a consistent rhythm across the building.
Environmental performance is addressed through a high-performance building envelope designed to meet Step Code 4, supporting energy efficiency appropriate to the scale and use of the house.
