ARROW LAKE VILLA

NAKUSP, BRITISH COLUMBIA

IN PROGRESS - SCHEDULED COMPLETION 2026

Arrow Lake Villa is a family retreat set along the tranquil shoreline of Interior British Columbia, designed as a counterpoint to the pace of urban life on the East Coast. The design is rooted in a deep understanding of the sites local region: living spaces are oriented to embrace panoramic views of the lake and surrounding Selkirk Mountains, with a primary focus toward the iconic peak of Mt. Odin.

The plan is anchored by a central open living area that extends seamlessly to covered decks and screened porches, dissolving the boundary between indoors and out. A restrained material palette grounds the building in its natural context—weathered zinc roofing and cedar siding stained in Sansin Black Knight by Fischer Coatings reflect the tones of forest and water, while expansive oak-framed glazing by Internorm fills the interiors with natural light and maintains a constant dialogue with the landscape.

At its core, the residence is a celebration of timber. A free-of-heart-centre, radio-kiln-dried post-and-beam structure supports a visually striking timber truss system, complemented by exposed wood soffits and American Clay plaster finishes. These elements highlight the warmth and resilience of wood while showcasing local craftsmanship. Deep overhangs and screened outdoor rooms enhance year-round comfort, protecting the home from summer sun, winter snow, and prevailing winds.

Inside, natural materials continue the theme of tactility and simplicity. White oak flooring and custom millwork crafted in Summerland, BC, frame carefully composed views that foster calm and permanence. The spatial arrangement balances communal gathering areas with private retreats, supporting both family connection and individual solitude.

Designed to meet Net Zero performance goals, the home integrates a biomass backup heating system, ensuring resilience in the local climate. The collaboration between Two73 Design, structural engineer Juniper, and local trades emphasizes durability and environmental responsibility, while custom timber finishes—developed jointly by Two73 Design Inc. and Fischer Coatings—lend the home a refined yet timeless character.

The Arrow Lake Villa demonstrates how thoughtful design, locally sourced materials, and high-performance building strategies can converge to create a contemporary expression of Interior BC living—a place for family to slow down, reconnect with nature, and build a lasting legacy on the quiet shores of the lake.
